Waiting on Wednesday: On The Hunt

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event I am joining, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read selection is:
On the Hunt
By Gena Showalter, Shannon K. Butcher, Jessica Anderson, and Deidre Knight
Releases February 1, 2011

“Ever Night” by Gena Showalter
When she turned eighteen, Rose Pascal magically leaves her bedroom with its electronic gizmos for a world of thicket woods. There she meets nasty Vasili who calls her a mouse before explaining she is a Dimension Walker. He sends her home though he normally kills Walkers. Over the years on her birthday she returns while her parents think she is crazy. Eventually his little mouse becomes a roaring lioness that Vasili falls in love with; but he and his people hunt her kind.

“The Collector” by Shannon K. Butcher
In St. Louis, demon Hunter Neal Etan meets antique dealer Viviana Rowan when she agrees to give him an artifact that allegedly will cure his friend’s paralysis. They touch and each feels the attraction. However, her life becomes threatened when the artifact vanishes.

This story features Neal from The Sentinel Wars series and it falls between books 2 and 3 in the series.

“Crystal Skull” by Jessica Anderson
In the Mexican rainforest, archeologist Natalie Albright finds her excavation abruptly stopped by officials because they fear she has demons. She is stunned by what she considers superstitious inanity until strange beasts arrack her after she and her team find the crystal skull. Only her ex husband JT can possibly keep her safe from the ancient evil that stalks her.

This story is a part of her Final Prophecy series. Its book number #5.5.

“Red Angel” by Deidre Knight
Nightshades demon team leader Jamie Angel has had problems with his family’s acceptance of Kate Rabineau, a freaking vampire, who is now engaged to Dillon Fox. Thus when he falls for Kate’s best friend Sunny Renfoe, Jamie is aghast because he knows she is not human, but what “Sunshine” is he has no idea.

These are four well written exciting romantic fantasies though the novella format limits lead couple development.

New Year, New Author Giveaway!!!

It's a new year so I wanted to read a story from a new author for me. I found Shifting Plains by Jean Johnson. Jean has written many books but I have yet to read any. She is most well-known for her Sons of Density series which I will be picking up next after loving Shifting Plains.

Jean Johnson's Shifterai people who live in the Plains is a fun, exciting world that just draws you in. I love the strong, loving men who can change shapes into many different animals. Then there are the strongly opinionated women who have to be strong enough to stand up as equals to these men. I like the traditions and customs these Shifterai have. For example, a woman asks a man to marry him by holding her hands out to him across a flame. He will have to cross the flame no matter how large in order to accept. Women are the masters of flame because they keep the fire burning in the hearth. It made perfect sense. The world she created makes me want to step inside and explore more.

Shifting Plains
By Jean Johnson

Centuries before the time of the Sons of Destiny, a female shapeshifter became the leader of the people of the Shifting Plains...

Tava Ell Var never really knew her mother, but she did know her tragic fate at the hands of a band of cruel shapeshifters-a history set down by Tava's father as a warning about life on the Shifting Plains. But after her father is murdered, Tava encounters a Shifterai warband fighting to rid the Plains of the terrorizing bandits

Shifterai leader Kodan Sin Siin is sympathetic to Tava's suffering, but he's determined to bring the wary young woman to the Plains. Because he knows her secret: She, like he and his men, is a shapeshifter. Once she joins them, he knows that she will see for herself the true fate that awaits her on the Plains, and most of all, lose her fear of his people. And, in time, he knows she will find her place is in their fight-and by his side

Giveaway: I have to copy of Shifting Plains I read and would love to give to to someone else who hasn't read Jean Johnson or just enjoys her other books. Winner announced January 18th.

Waiting on Wednesday: Primal

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event I am joining, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read selection is:
Primal
Anthology with Lora Leigh, Michelle Rowen, Jory Strong and Ava Gray
Releases February 1, 2011

When desire cannot be controlled…When personal will is overpowered by carnal cravings…When only one fearless impulse feeds you, body and soul…
You can’t deny it. It’s something primal.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Lora Leigh returns to her sensual world of the Breeds …in Kyote’s Ghost, an all-new novella that explores just how savage, how far, and how deep a man is willing to go in the name of desire.

Breed novella, “Primal Kiss” (Breeds, #24)
When the bad boy lion breed Creed Raines crashes the family cabin while Pharmaceutical CEO Horace Engall's daughter is vacationing it sets off a series of events that even Creed couldn't have imagined beginning. Mating Heat blows sky high, hot and overwhelming, and reminding him of all the reasons he had fought to avoid it. Especially with the shy, though incredibly stubborn decided willful, much loved and cherished Engalls Princess, Kita Engalls.

But for Jonas Wyatt it could be a blessing in disguise, because only Horace Engalls knows the true scope of Phillip Brackenmore’s evil. And only by holding Kita hostage to the truth Jonas demands, will it ever come to light. But can mating heat bloom and became the fiery tendrils of love when Kita suspects her breed has betrayed her?

Ava Gray, known for her “riveting romantic suspense” (Publishers Weekly)…now tells a tantalizing tale of an ordinary man—blessed and cursed with extraordinary powers—who gets a second, deserving chance at life and love.

Set in the same dark, seductive corners of the Nightshade universe…the new novella by Michelle Rowen draws an innocent young woman into the dark world of a vampire whose eternal love could be the death of her.

Michelle Rowen's novella, BLEEDING HEART (Nightshade #1.5), takes place a few days AFTER the events in NIGHTSHADE.

Jory Strong’s “worldbuilding is nothing short of stunning” (Genre Reviews)…and all the more so her startling novella of an angel who crosses the boundaries of desire when he falls desperately in love with a mortal female.

“Angel-Claimed” by Jory Strong seems to be apart of her Ghostland World.
