Cover Love: Entice

Carrie Jones did it again with a beautiful cover for the last and final installment in her Need Series. The Entice cover continues the trend of the gold dust left behind by the faeries. I have been waiting for this one ever since finishing Captivate and have to wait for it to be released on January 3, 2011.

Zara and Nick are soul mates, meant to be together forever. But that's not quite how things have worked out.

For starters, well, Nick is dead. Supposedly, he's been taken to a mythic place for warriors known as Valhalla, so Zara and her friends might be able to get him back. But it's taking time, and meanwhile a group of evil pixies is devastating Bedford, with more teens going missing every day. An all-out war seems imminent, and the good guys need all the warriors they can find. But how to get to Valhalla?

And even if Zara and her friends discover the way, there's that other small problem: Zara's been pixie kissed. When she finds Nick, will he even want to go with her? Especially since she hasn't just turned. She's Astley's queen.

Review: The Panther's Lair

By Esmerelda Bishop
Released: May 26, 2010
Source of Review: NetGalley

This was a quick, hot erotic short story by Esmerelda Bishop. I enjoyed the pace of the one-night stand that turned into an unwanted bonding experience Sydney was not planning with mission ‘Get Laid’. All she wanted was to be like a guy a think with her vajayjay and not her heart for a night of sex with a random guy she picked up at a Local club, The Panther’s Lair.

What is her lucky but to get picked up by the hot, young owner of the club, Raimond who most likely picks up a girl every night? Sydney does not know Raimond does not mix business with pleasure but he must have her. Raimond has a French accent so when things get hot and heavy he speaks in French which drives Syndey wild but it also keeps things mysterious. Raimond calls her Mon ame soeur which sounds extremely sex however Sydney does not know that from the beginning he is calling her His Soul Mate.

Every story needs trouble and that comes in the form of John, Syndey’s dangerous ex who hit her once and that was all it took for her to leave but he is not letting her go. Raimond will not let what is HIS be hurt. He protects Sydney with his life but will he lose her in the process.

I really enjoyed Sydney trying to evade Raimond after the one night of mind blowing sex and how Raimond out maneuvered her.

Men are only good for one thing.

Sydney Chase may have sworn off relationships-but she still has needs. So she heads to the Panther's Lair in search of sex: no strings, no emotions. The club owner, dark, mysterious Raimond Decoudreau, is exactly what she's looking for-his French accent alone makes her hot. Fortunately, his mouth has other sinful talents, as well...

After just one night with Sydney, Raimond knows she's his. And when the time is right, when she loves him in return, he'll reveal his deepest secret. For now, he'll enjoy pleasuring her in the most intimate of ways. But when Sydney's life is threatened, Raimond's instincts take control, and she gets a glimpse at the beast within...

Chloe Neill's Twice Bitten Blog Tour Q&A's & Giveaway

I am so happy to have Chloe Neill here today as her part Blog Tour to celebrate her newest release of her Twice Bitten which is the third book in Chloe’s Chicagoland Vampires Series. She is giving away a signed copy of Twice Bitten. If you have yet to enjoy this fabulous series then you are missing out. Some Girls Bite and Friday Night Bites are the first two in the series.

Could you start things off by telling us a little about Chicagoland Vampires Series?

Sure. In the Chicagoland Vampires series, we meet Merit, a 27 year-old graduate student who's just been turned into a vampire. She learns that she's expected to become a vampire warrioress, and that there's an entire world of magic and supernatural creatures in the city of Chicago.

If you could change places with one character from your book, who would it be and why?

Probably Merit, the heroine. She has the opportunity to prove that she is more than meets the eye, which is a very appealing opportunity. :)

Do you have a favorite scene or line from Twice Bitten?

I do. My favorite line is this one: "Always remember," he whispered to me, "that you are an uncommon soldier, whatever they say. And you are quite a thing to behold."

I LOVE that line. :)

Mallory is Merit’s sorcerer best friend, Lindsay is her vampire best friend. It there a chance Fallon will become Merit’s shifter best friend?

I can't say for sure, as that would be a spoiler, but I do hope to include more Fallon in future novels.

We learn Merit’s first name in Twice Bitten, and I have to say I thought it would be worse. Do we ever find out why she doesn’t go by it?

Merit gives readers clues to why she goes by her last name in both Some Girls Bite and Friday Night Bites. It's not because the name is unattractive, but because of what it symbolizes. And, yes, I hope she'll have a chance to reveal why she goes by Merit in a future book.

I always enjoy reading short stories from my favorite series that come out in Anthologies with a bunch of different authors. If you could write a particular short story about in Chicagoland Vampires whose POV would you write from?

I would probably write from Mallory's perspective, as I think her magic shenanigans would probably be pretty entertaining. Jeff would also make a great POV, as would Lindsey.

Do you have a current project you’re working on or something you plan to begin soon?

I'm working on the edits for HEXBOUND, the second novel in my Dark Elite series, which will be released in January 2011. I'm also writing the fourth book in the Chicagoland Vampires series, which will be released in July 2011.

Thank you so much Chloe for joining me today. I can’t wait until next July for more of Merit. I did really enjoy the end of Twice Bitten so thanks for that.

Check out my review early for Twice Bitten here.

Cover Love: The Lost Saint

Bree Despain has released the cover of the sequel to her debut novel, The Dark Divine. The Lost Saint is set to be releases this December 28, 2010. I like that main color on this cover is a tealish blue, unlike the first one was purple which I also liked but this one is cool.

A family destroyed. A love threatened. An enemy returns.

Grace Divine made the ultimate sacrifice to cure Daniel Kalbi. She was infected with the werewolf curse while trying to save him, and lost her beloved brother in the process. When Grace receives a haunting phone call from Jude, she knows what she must do. She must become a Hound of Heaven.
Desperate to find Jude, Grace befriends Talbot—a newcomer to town who promises her that he can help her be a hero. But as the two grow closer, the wolf grows in Grace, and her relationship with Daniel is put in danger—in more ways than one.
Unaware of the dark path she is walking, Grace begins to give into the wolf inside of her—not realizing that an enemy has returned and a deadly trap is about to be sprung

Review: Tempting the Enemy

Tempting the Enemy
By Dee Tenorio
Source for Review: NetGalley

Detective Pale Rysen, an Alpha, is determined to secretly rebuild the Wolf packs from the ashes of genocide. When a killer starts picking off young females looking for sanctuary, it's his job to protect them. Forced to work with a hated enemy, he fears his cover will be blown.

Jade-Scarlet's membership in the powerful Order of the Sibile has always been controversial. A half-wolf, Jade's unstable psychic powers are a disappointment to her mercenary handlers. So when the Oracle commands her to work with Pale, Jade must prove herself...even if it means challenging the enigmatic shifter. Yet Pale triggers more than her curiosity. He sends her into Heat, and the intense sexual attraction could mean losing control of her gifts-something she can't allow. As the number of victims rises, so does the danger. A murderous darkness wants them both dead. But even if they stop the killer, how long can they fight each other?

I really loved this one. Dee put the main characters, Pale and Jade, on a journey where they both grew and changed to be who they were meant to be. They battled each other throughout it because they each had it this notion set in their head on what they thought they were and not willingly to explore the possibility that they could be more.

I liked the way they worked on an investigation finding a serial murderer that brought them together. I did not see who the murderer was and until Jade found out and it was very interesting choice. I liked it as horrible as it is. They both have a purposeful future where they need each other to fulfill. I like that they were both had so much pride in the begin of the strong and slowly picked at one another until they realized they could be really truly happy if they just learned to trust in the other.

I would love for there to be a sequel with these two but if not I am still happy with the story. Pale and Jade are a good pair.

Pray for Dawn by Jocelynn Drake

Pray for Dawn is the Fourth installment to Jocelynn Drake’s series but with a different narrator then all the others. The first three books where told by Mira, the 600 year-old firestarter vampire but this one is told by her counterpart Danaus, the vampire hunter. I liked the different POV. Mira is not the most reliable source of reality so it makes sense for the change of narrator.
I really liked the new character Lucy, she is a spit-fire teenager and I agree with Danaus that she reminds me of Mira. And the sexual tension between Danaus and Mira is getting to high for them that they start to act on it but of course the dude messes it up. One of my favorite sense comes from Danaus's screw up.
Flopping down in the chair I had been seating in only moments ago, I put my elbows on my knees and dropped my head into my hands. What a fucking mess!
“Women.” A heavy voice sighed from above me. “Who understands them?”

With the way Pray for Dawn it’s a good thing the wait for Wait for Dusk is not long with its release date being days away on July 27th.

Pray for salvation . . .

Pray for daylight . . .

Murder has pulled Mira out of the shadows and back into the living world . . .

As the fire-wielding enforcer of the nightwalker coven wrestles with the mind-destroying ghosts of her dark past, the slaying of a senator's daughter in Savannah threatens to expose her kind to the brilliant light of day. The dawn of chaos has come. The naturi have broken free of their eternal prison to feed on the defenseless and unbelieving of an unprepared Earth.

Mira and Danaus—vampire and vampire slayer—must unite to prevent the annihilation of their separate races. But for Danaus the challenge is intensified, for he must also fight the bori who covets his soul. And Mira, the nightwalker he must protect—whose power is the Earth's last hope—is rapidly going insane.

Chloe Neill's Twice Bitten

I have been waiting for Chloe's newest release of her Chicagoland Vampires Series and I was not disappointed. Merit is one of my favorite chicks and the people in her life. In this book the shifters are coming to town and they want Merit. The big Alpha Gabriel is trying to be friendly and gives Merit some cryptic messages about family needs a bodyguard. Ethan decides to throw Merit to the wolves so to speak.

I really enjoyed the Keene family and there were plenty of them. Families are important to shifters and throw a good party. I really enjoyed the only female Keene, Fallon, and so did Jeff. I hope to see more of her, she's feisty. Gabriel is a good leader for the shifters and understands loyalty to friends which could include Merit and Ethan.

This had some good scenes with Merit's friends like a girls night out with the Cadogen vampire chicks including Lindsay. They teach Merit a new drinking game where they drink on any of Ethan's quirks that bug them. They had to switch to soda by the end. Mallory is always fun when ever she is in Merit's life and finally Merit does right by her.

Merit, Chicago’s newest vampire, is learning how to play well with others. Other supernaturals, that is. Shapeshifters from across the country are convening in the Windy City, and as a gesture of peace, Master Vampire Ethan Sullivan has offered their leader a very special bodyguard: Merit. Merit is supposed to protect the Alpha, Gabriel Keene—and to spy for the vamps while she’s at it. Oh, and luckily Ethan’s offering some steamy, one-on-one combat training sessions to help her prepare for the mission.

Merit must accept the assignment, even though she knows that she’ll probably regret it. And she’s not wrong. Someone is gunning for Gabriel Keene, and Merit soon finds herself in the line of fire. She’ll need all the help she can get to track down the would-be assassin, but everywhere she turns, there are rising tensions between supernaturals—not least between her and a certain green-eyed, centuries old master vampire.

Favorite Quote:

"Catcher snorted. “If we’re not playing naked Twister, we’re wasting our waking hours.”
“Yep,” Mallory said as she tugged him down the sidewalk, “that’s the love of my life. He’s a romantic at heart."

The next Chicagoland Vampires book is out July 2011 when we find out what is next for Merit, Ethan, Lindsay, Luc, Jeff, Mallory, Catcher and everyone else in Chicago.

Anita Blake 2010 Reading Challenge Book #10

Narcissus in Chains
Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #10
Laurell K. Hamilton

I am now halfway throught the Anita Blake series and I really enjoyed this one. Anita learns that alpha werepacks were missing and all the weres came to her for help. She did not realize who important she was until a very inspiring speech were almost every were in the city raised their hand stating at some point Anita has saved their life from torture, death, or slavery. It was nice they finally recognized her bravery.

Now, lets add another boy to the mix, two boys in love with you is just not enough. Micah, is a leopard King that has come to join Anita and they have a strong connection that cannot be stopped. Their beastlies like each other. However, things get rocky with Richard who still cannot accept what and who he is and who and what Anita is. Lots of issues.

Six months of celibacy have made Anita crave the two men in her life like never before. But merging their powers together will give this mortal woman a taste of immortal hunger that she'll never be able to forget...

Anita Blake 2010 Reading Challenge Book #9

Obsidian Butterfly
Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #9
Laurell K. Hamilton

This was a nice change to the series with Anita getting away from Jean-Claude and Richard so she could be the Vampire Executioner again. Edward calls in his debt from Anita to come down to Santa Fe and help him hunt an unknown monster.

I really enjoyed learning more about Edward/Ted which was terribly confusing but really interesting. Could Edward really become a family man or has hell froze over? This was really interesting and disturbing for Anita and the reader to see because Edward seemed to know exactly who he was before this book. He is learning about how much he cares about Donna, Becca, and Peter.

Anita gets to hunt, find monsters and work with the police again to help with an investigation instead of her messed up love life. I missed this strong, hard women who could stand up to all who underestimated her. We also get a whole new cast of characters from Edward's back-up to the monsters of Santa Fe. A nice change.

Favorite Quote:

"Put any woman in an area run mostly by men and rumors will fly. Unless you make it very clear that you are off limits, there is also a certain competitiveness that sets in. Some men are either trying to run you out of town or get into your pants. They don't seem to know any other way to deal with a woman. If you're not a sexual object, you're a threat."

Roxanne St.Claire's The Bullet Catchers

Trained to protect. Able to kill. Willing to die. And drop-dead gorgeous.

I really enjoyed Roxanne's Bullet Catchers series. I always find guys with a protective instinct are so much hotter for it so a series where these big strong men's job is to be so protective that they would take a bullet for their principel is amazing brave.

Lucy, the a former CIA spy leads her group of merry men like a family. I love how they are scared of her even though they are some of the toughest men in the business. She sends them on job she knows will test them to the fullest because they hardest job is to protect with head when you are thinking with your heart. She always seems to know where to send them so they find happiness and it always works to her advantage because she gets a new member for the Bullet Catcher family.

All the stories are different even though they have the same basic principle of being a bodyguard and protecting someone. They all have love connections that are perfect for each personality.

#1 Kill Me Twice (Bullet Catcher: Alex Romero)
#2Thrill Me To Death (Bullet Catcher: Max Roper)
#2.5 “You Can Count On Me” a novella in I’ll Be Home For Christmas (Bullet Catcher: Raquel Durant)
#3Take Me Tonight (Bullet Catcher: Johnny Christiano)
#3.5 “Reason To Believe” a novella in What You Can’t See (Bullet Catcher: Chase Ryker)
#4 First You Run (Bullet Catcher: Adrien Fletcher)
#5Then You Hide (Bullet Catcher: Wade Cordell)
#6 Now You Die (Bullet Catcher: Lucy Sharpe)
#7 Hunt Her Down(Bullet Catcher: Dan Gallagher)
#8 Make Her Pay (Bullet Catcher: Con Xenakis)

What's next for Roxanne is a spin-off series from one of the bullet catchers, Johnny Christiano whose family is a interesting, dangerous bunch. The new series is called The Guardian Angelinos, the first book is due out in November 2010 called Edge of Sight.

ARC Tour: When Blood Calls

J.K Beck
Releases August 31, 2010
Source: Review copy provided by Book It Forward ARC Tours for review.

The Shadow Keepers series has real promise if When Blood Calls gives any hints. I really enjoyed the organization that Sara got a promotion to work for. She is a really good at getting justice against the evils of the world but she has just an upgrade to fight evil that gives most mortals nightmares; vampires, werewolves, and other night creatures who play by different rules. Sara's first case is against the very sexy, very dangerous stranger she slept with just two nights ago, Lucius.

Lucius is a very misunderstood bad guy. He doesn't see the world in black and white but in shades of gray and I feel that is more realistic. Sara believes the system works but when the system fails and puts murders back on the street someone should take care of that oversite so it doesn't bother me. Lucius is like an advenging angel. He does the dirty work and doesn't care that people think he is the evil one instead of the other way around. Sara and Lucius is a good feisty pair.

Sara Constantine is one of the country’s most tenacious prosecuting attorneys—and she’s just secured a well-earned promotion. At first she’s thrilled. Then she finds out her new job involves prosecuting vampires and werewolves. And nothing prepares Sara for the shock she receives when she meets the first defendant she’ll be trying to put away: Lucius Dragos, the sexy stranger with whom she recently shared an explosive night of ecstasy.

When Lucius Dragos kisses the beautiful woman sitting next to him at the bar, he’s only hoping to blend into the crowd and avoid the perceptive gaze of the man he’s following…and planning to kill. But what starts as a simple kiss to secure his cover ignites into a fierce hunger that leads to an all-consuming passion. Charged with murder, Luke knows Sara will do whatever it takes to see him locked away—unless he can convince her that he’s not the monster she thinks he is. And that might mean making the greatest sacrifice a vampire can make.

2. When Pleasure Rules (Releases September 28, 2010)
3. When Wicked Craves (Releases October 26, 2010)
