Anita Blake 2010 Reading Challenge Book #4

First I hope you like the new look. I was not looking for a change but my last template went wacky. I was forced to do it but I am loving it. Change is sometimes good.

The Lunatic Cafe
Laurell K. Hamilton

She's survived a lot, but this love thing may kill her yet....

Anita has got herself a love life and when she should be in new relationship bliss she is dealing with trouble. Her new furry boyfriend Richard is in a power struggle with Marcus, the leader of the local werewolf pack. Richard does not want trouble but he is an idealist and has to stand-up for what he believes is right. He trys to keep it from Anita which of course she does not appriecate. Life gets more interesting when Richard pops the question and Anita even surprises herself with her answer.

I really enjoyed Jean-Claude's suggestion to allow him a chance to woo her. If it is serious between Richard and Anita he is not giving her up without a fight. You gotta love him. If Richard gets a kiss then so does Jean-Claude. Ooo hes good.

Fallen's TV commercial

While watching Vampire Diaries this past Thursday I was very excited to see Fallen having a TV spot. I haven't read the book yet but it is on my TBR list and I think this commercial pushed it to the top. It was a perfect time to promote during a paranormal show for a paranormal book. Good choice.

Fallen
Some Angels are Destined to Fall

There's something achingly familair about Daniel Grigori.

Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price's attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword and Cross boarding scholl in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He's the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce-and goes out of his way to make that very clear-she can't let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret...even if it kills her.

The Dark Forgotten By Sharon Ashwood

The Dark Forgotten Series
By Sharon Ashwood

This new author Sharon Ashwood first series is called The Dark Forgotten. It is set in a medium size town where supernatural community is out in the open but treated as second-rate citizens. Ravenous is the first book in the series and deals mostly with Holly. Holly Carver is a witch from a powerful witch line but after a childhood mishap make doing big-M magic hurts a lot. Her sister Ashe was not as luck, she lost the ability to do magic at all. Holly works with a big-bad sheriff of the town vamp, Alessandro who is a predator in every way but wants Holly.

As Holly's Grandma says,"Vampires are like a box of chocolates: They seem tempting, but overindulgence can be a killer..."

Mac is a detective that also finds Holly very attractive but he is more into bad girls which turns him into something not that human. Scorched deals more with Mac and Constance, a strangely innocent vampire trapped in a supernatural prison. It is action-packed with Ashe returning to Holly's life to stake her vampire boyfriend, Alessandro.

Midnight's Daughter By Karen Chance

Midnight's Daughter
Karen Chance

Karen Chance is by far one of my favorite authors and this is just another one of her fabulous books that I could not put down. If you have not read any of Karen's books yet do not start with this one. I would recommend starting with Cassandra Palmer series because all her book series are in the same world just the heroine in the series are different. This series follows Dorina Basarab who is a dhampir-half-human, half-vampire and daughter of Mircea. The very sexy master vamp we met in Cassie Palmer series but in Midnight's Daughter he is a daddy.

Unlike most dhampirs, though, Dory has managed to maintain her sanity. Now Dory's vampire father has come to her for help-again. Her Uncle Dracula (yes, the Dracula), cruelest among vampires, has escaped his prison. And her father wants Dory to work with gorgeous master vampire Louis-Cesare to put him back there.

Although Dory prefers to work alone, Dracula is the onyl thing that truly scares her-and when she has to face him, she'll take all the help she can get...

Dorina Basarab series is:
On the Prowl "Buying Trouble" -A novella about Claire, Dorina's roommate.
Midnight's Daughter
Death's Mistress
Book 3 is in the works

Anita Blake 2010 Reading Challenge Book #2

The Laughing Corpse
Laurell K. Hamilton

This was the second book in the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Series. I enjoyed this book more than the first I think because I am getting to know the characters more. I can see why people really like the strong-willed Anita. This book you get more of her personality. I really liked her strength around the big bas vamps and all the other officers in the spook squad. I agree with her argument that as a girl in a man's job she has to be stronger and faster than them. She does not let other bully her and she is not so proud that she won't when she is scared.

I really like the friendly banter between Anita and the cops. Detective Clive Perry is the polite cop that always treats Anita with respect. He has an old-world courtliness to him. Dolph who is head of the spook squad and relies on Anita knowledge in the paranormal world. He is extremely good at his job. Zerbrowski is my favorite on the team because he is always playing with Anita. One of my favorite scene is between the two at a crime scene to see who tossed their cookies first.

There is also some very scary new characters. Harold Gaynor who is a rich millionaire who would like to hire Anita to raise a 300 year old corpse. His two bodyguards Bruno and Tommy both with nasty attitudes. Also the most powerful voodoo priestess in the Midwest Dominga who wants to recruit Anita into a very big money making deal. Neither Harold or Dominga react well to Anita turning them down.

Anita Blake 2010 Reading Challenge Book #1

So the new year is here so now I started my first ever reading challenge. I signed up to read Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Series which has 18 book in it.

Guilty Pleasures Book #1

This is the first book in the infamous series where we meet Anita Blake. Anita lives in St. Louis where she is an animator, one who raises the dead, but when the law allows she hunts vampires. For the last two years, the Supreme Court granted the undead equal rights so it is considered murder to stake a vamp without a warrant. Anita's nickname by the vampires is the Executioner.

I really liked meeting Anita and learning she is a short chick that can take care of herself. She admits right up front she is judgemental and does not try to hide it. Anita does not like Vampires and does not want to take jobs where she has to work for them however her greedy boss Bert signs her up for one anyway. This is where Anita's life gets interesting when the most powerful vampire in town wants to hire Anita to find the serial killer who is murdering vampires all over town.

Karen Chance Update

So on Karen Chance's website she put up an update on what she is working on and what not. It is good and bad news for me and other fans.

Bad News: She is working on Cassie Palmer #5 and expects it to be finished it soon however her publisher doesn't want to release it until summer 2011. This is way too long to wait. Karen agrees and is trying to convince her publisher to more it up.

Good news: Over the next couple months, Karen will be releasing some short stories from favorite characters in the Cassie Palmer series; John Pritkin, Mircea, and Francoise. I always having stories from other characters point of views.

Beneath the Skin

This is the third book in the Maker's Song Series. If you haven't read the first two books, A Rush of Wings and In The Blood, you are missing out. This is an extremely exciting world that you could get caught up in.

"Lush, sexy, and thrilling, Beneath the Skin is another darkly addictive entry in The Maker's Song series. Adrian Phoenix makes her world of vampires, fallen angels, compelling characters, and rich settings come alive. I have two words for Ms. Phoenix: write faster."--Jeaniene Frost, New York Times bestselling author.

Bone Magic
Yasmine Galenorn
Released January 5, 2010

A must have read is the newest to Yasmine's Otherworld Series. This is the 7th book for the D'Artigo sisters and their adventures.

We're the D'Artigo sisters: savvy--and sexy--operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. But being half-human, half-Fae shortcircuits our talents at all the wrong times. My sister Delilah is a two-faced Were who turns into a golden tabby when she's stressed. And Menolly's a vampire who's still trying to get the hang of being undead. As for me? I'm Camille D'Artigo, a wicked-good witch who's learning death magic with my youkai-kitsune husband. Until now, the Moon Mother's pretty much ignored me, but she's about to take me on the Hunt of my life...

Hunting Julian
Jacquelyn Frank
Released January 2010

I am very excited for Jacquelyn's new series about The Gatherers Series. It is quite a different direction from her Nightwalkers and Shadowdwellers Series but it sounds like I will love it just as much as her first two series.

As a guardian for his colony, Julian Sawyer travels to Earth to bring back the Chosen-women who possess energy potent enough to help revitalize his people. The stunning, sliver-clad beauty who strides into his club one night radiates a sensual magnetism unlike any he's encountered, and Julian realizes that Asia Callahan is not just Chosen, she is his kindra: his one true mate. For months, Asia had tracked the beautiful and mysterious Julian across the country, convinced that he's behind the disappearence of her sister and a dozen othe women. She's prepared to believe he's a ruthless killer, but when she presents herself as bait, she discovers that the truth is far more shocking. Taken to a strange, hazardous realm she never knew existed, Asia will face the ultimate choice-between abandoning the life she's always known, and forsaking a passion as dangerous as it is powerful.
