September 25-October 2, 2010 is Banned Books Week (BBW) which is celebrating the freedom to read what one likes and the importance of the First Amendment. BBW goal is to highlight the benefits of access to information and the harm of censorship. It is important to have a chance to read books with unorthodox and unpopular viewpoints if one wishes.
American Library Association has more information if you are interested here.
Laurie Halse Anderson is one the authors I really enjoy reading because she writes about some sensitive issues and makes one think when they read her books. One of her books, Speak, is one of the books on this list. Check out her website because she has a lot to say. Even ways to contact people to help.
Giveaway: A copy of Laurie Halse Anderson's Speak
1. Leave a comment (What do you think about censorship?)
2. Must be a follower
3. Leave an email address
4. US only. Sorry
