I have been waiting for Chloe's newest release of her Chicagoland Vampires Series and I was not disappointed. Merit is one of my favorite chicks and the people in her life. In this book the shifters are coming to town and they want Merit. The big Alpha Gabriel is trying to be friendly and gives Merit some cryptic messages about family needs a bodyguard. Ethan decides to throw Merit to the wolves so to speak.
I really enjoyed the Keene family and there were plenty of them. Families are important to shifters and throw a good party. I really enjoyed the only female Keene, Fallon, and so did Jeff. I hope to see more of her, she's feisty. Gabriel is a good leader for the shifters and understands loyalty to friends which could include Merit and Ethan.
This had some good scenes with Merit's friends like a girls night out with the Cadogen vampire chicks including Lindsay. They teach Merit a new drinking game where they drink on any of Ethan's quirks that bug them. They had to switch to soda by the end. Mallory is always fun when ever she is in Merit's life and finally Merit does right by her.
Merit, Chicago’s newest vampire, is learning how to play well with others. Other supernaturals, that is. Shapeshifters from across the country are convening in the Windy City, and as a gesture of peace, Master Vampire Ethan Sullivan has offered their leader a very special bodyguard: Merit. Merit is supposed to protect the Alpha, Gabriel Keene—and to spy for the vamps while she’s at it. Oh, and luckily Ethan’s offering some steamy, one-on-one combat training sessions to help her prepare for the mission.
Merit must accept the assignment, even though she knows that she’ll probably regret it. And she’s not wrong. Someone is gunning for Gabriel Keene, and Merit soon finds herself in the line of fire. She’ll need all the help she can get to track down the would-be assassin, but everywhere she turns, there are rising tensions between supernaturals—not least between her and a certain green-eyed, centuries old master vampire.

"Catcher snorted. “If we’re not playing naked Twister, we’re wasting our waking hours.”
“Yep,” Mallory said as she tugged him down the sidewalk, “that’s the love of my life. He’s a romantic at heart."
The next Chicagoland Vampires book is out July 2011 when we find out what is next for Merit, Ethan, Lindsay, Luc, Jeff, Mallory, Catcher and everyone else in Chicago.
